Why do NREGA .xls files open so slowly?
The portal doesn't send a real spreadsheet. The .xls file is actually an
HTML web page with a table inside it. Excel can display it, but it has to
reinterpret the whole page every time, which is slow and often throws a "different format
than specified by the file extension" warning. This tool reads that table and rewrites it
as a genuine .xlsx workbook, so Excel opens it instantly and formulas/sorting
work normally.
Is my data safe?
Yes — the conversion happens entirely inside your browser. Your report files are never uploaded to any server; nothing leaves your computer.
